The annual Lincoln Day Dinner brought Republicans from around the state to the Marietta Shrine Club.

Jane Timken, 54, of Canton, is running for the U.S. Senate seat which will be vacated by Republican Sen. Rob Portman, who decided in January not to run for re-election.

She resigned her position as chair of the Ohio Republican Party in February in order to run for the Senate.

¯ ¯ ¯

Question: What made you decide to run for the U.S. Senate?

Timken: I’m not the kind of person that can sit on the sidelines. When I see a problem, I want to stand up and solve it. I felt the call to get more involved in 2016 when the Kasich-backed Ohio Republican Party turned their back on President Trump and Republican values, so I ran for Party Chair as a conservative disrupter to fix their mess.

With President Trump’s endorsement, I won, cleaned house, unified the Party, and delivered conservative victories up and down the ballot in 2018 and 2020, culminating with an 8-point win for President Trump in Ohio.

When Senator Portman announced his retirement, I knew I once again could not sit on the sidelines. In just 100 days, Joe Biden and his socialist allies have stripped back the incredible progress we saw under President Trump by putting America last, not America First. Ohioans want to see secure borders, low taxes, tough-on-China policies, and a booming economy, and I will go to Washington to fight for a return to these America First policies that worked for Ohio.

¯ ¯ ¯

Q: What do you think are some of the biggest challenges Ohioans face today?

T: As I travel across Ohio, the biggest complaint I hear from small businesses to large businesses across the spectrum is that they can’t find enough people to work. We must get our economy back on track and focus on ensuring we have the skilled workforce needed to fill jobs available.

That means lifting all COVID-era restrictions that are stunting our economic recovery, ensuring oureschools are competitive by advocating for skilled trades and business development, and prioritizing an Ohio workforce through strong border policies that protect against illegal immigration.

¯ ¯ ¯

Q: What were some of the biggest accomplishments for the Ohio Republican Party during your tenure as chairwoman?

T: As Ohio Republican Party chair, I crisscrossed Ohio, putting 150,000 miles on two cars fighting to elect conservative warriors up and down the ballot. Under my leadership, we retained our Congressional seats, swept our statewide executive offices, and elected conservatives in key local races that have made huge differences in Ohioans’ lives all across the state.

Importantly, I proudly served as President Trump’s number 1 champion in Ohio and helped deliver our state for President Trump by over eight points in 2020.

On a personal level, I am also very proud to be the first female chair of the Ohio Republican Party. I have always encouraged more women to get involved in public service as we have an important voice that should be at the table. If elected, I would be even prouder to serve as Ohio’s first female Senator.

¯ ¯ ¯

Q: What do you hope to accomplish if you are voted into the U.S. Senate?

T: I am deeply concerned about Joe Biden and Democrats’ irresponsible spending proposals that are costing our economy trillions and hiking taxes across the board. I’m a fiscal conservative and believe that when we spend hard-working taxpayer dollars, it should be targeted – not $6 trillion in a liberal wish list.

I am a strong proponent of tax cuts and will fight to return to the historic Trump-era tax cuts that stimulated our economy and created thousands of jobs. I have already signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge, pledging to oppose tax increases once elected, and will fight to get government out of the way and out of our pocketbooks.

As a mom, education and the well-being of our children are also a top priority of mine. I am a strong advocate for school choice and believe that we must expand educational opportunities for our children. No child should ever be confined by the constraints of their zip code. I will also fight to put an end full-stop to the lefts’ radical education agenda known as Critical Race Theory that is seeking to indoctrinate our children and polarize our communities. While we of course should teach empathy and the facts of history, I believe moms, dads and teachers know what is best for our kids in the classroom – not partisan propagandists in Washington pushing a political agenda. I have launched a listening tour across Ohio on this important subject and will take parents’ concerns with me to Washington.

¯ ¯ ¯

Q: In your campaign video, you talk about threats to freedoms. Can you explain what those threats are?

T: The socialist left is threatening our freedoms every day. Democrats are trying to pack the Supreme Court, end the filibuster, federalize our elections, pass the so-called Equality Act that puts boys in girls’ sports, and transform our country as we know it.

They want to strip away our fundamental right to life, right to bear arms, and right to worship. They have flung open our nation’s borders, want to grant amnesty to 11 million illegal immigrants, and have turned their back on law enforcement and our military. I believe America is the greatest country in the world and deserves to be protected.

I believe our rights are not government-given, but God-given. I will always stand up for our Constitution, protect American freedoms, and ensure that America never becomes a socialist country.

¯ ¯ ¯

Q: You stood by former President Donald Trump with his America First agenda. Why is this agenda important?

T: There’s only one U.S. Senate candidate in this race who has consistently and reliably been an unwavering fighter for Donald Trump and the America First agenda over the last five years, and that is me.

President Trump put Ohio manufacturers first, he put Ohio farmers first, he put Ohio small businesses first, and his policies were working. But now, Biden and his Democrat allies are targeting Ohio workers by hiking taxes, rolling back tough-on-China policies, and waging a war on American energy and fossil fuels.

Ohio needs a Senator that will stand up against these radical policies and fight for a return of the America First agenda because that is what was working for Ohio.

¯ ¯ ¯

Q: When Ohioans go to the polls, why should they cast their vote for you?

T: Ohioans need someone who’s going to be a fighter for their families, their freedoms, and their jobs. I’ve always been that fighter, and I will loudly and proudly stand up for Ohioans because I love this state and I love this country. I would be honored if you join me in my race. Chillicothe Gazette: Senate candidate Jane Timken visits Chillicothe, discusses goals

By Justin Reutter

https://www.chillicothegazette.com/story/news/2021/05/07/senate-candidate-jane-timken-visits-chillicothe-discusses-goals/4986925001/

CHILLICOTHE – Former Ohio GOP Chair Jane Timken describes herself as one who always wants to “tackle a problem head-on.”

“I think it’s important that we stand up and fight for our freedoms and our families and our communities — fight for the America First agenda,” she said.

The Cincinnati native and Canton-area resident launched her bid to succeed fellow Republican Senator Rob Portman two months ago and has been touring the state to meet with voters, especially Republican women.

The candidate visited Chillicothe Thursday night to speak at the Lincoln Day Dinner held by the Republican Women of Ross County.

Timken served as Ohio Republican Party Chair from 2017-2021, where she delivered conservative victories up and down the ballot in the 2020 election, including congressional seats, statewide officeholders, the majority in the Ohio Statehouse, and even flipping several county commissioner seats across the state.

Most importantly, Timken delivered Ohio to former President Donald Trump by an eight-point margin.

“I recognized that when I became chair of the party, the party was divided,” she said in an interview with the Gazette. “I unified the party, I cleaned up the Kasich regime and their mess, I stood up in support of President Trump, and made the party into a well-oiled machine.”

Trump endorsement is potentially a key to the race

The former Republican Party Chair emphasized that she is the only candidate who was endorsed by the former president to be the chair of the Republican Party, and has spent the last four years and 150,000 miles crossing the state to talk to voters.

Trump reportedly helped Timken oust former Ohio GOP candidate Matt Borges in early 2017. Borges, who has since been charged in a $60 million bribery scandal but maintains his innocence, was backed by former Ohio Gov. John Kasich, who has been an outspoken critic of the former president.

When Timken in turn resigned to run for Senate, she was replaced by former Trump Ohio campaign chair Bob Paduchik.

Three other Republicans are running to succeed Portman: Cleveland investment banker Mike Gibbons; former state Treasurer Josh Mandel, and Westlake auto dealer and tech investor Bernie Moreno. U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan, a suburban Warren County Democrat, is also running for the soon-to-be-open seat.

“I would welcome President Trump’s endorsement, but obviously it’s the voters of Ohio who make the decision as to who the nominee will be,” said Timken. “I plan on winning this race, but I’ve been the one in the trenches fighting for the America First agenda, obviously I delivered Ohio by over eight points for President Trump, and I’m proud of that accomplishment.”

While Timken acknowledged that Joe Biden is president, she repeated the claim that there were “irregularities” in the 2020 election, in states such as Michigan and Pennsylvania.

“I think going forward we have to focus on election integrity, it’s important to our democracy. People have to have faith in their vote and know it counts.”

In the weeks following Trump’s loss in the 2020 election, the Trump campaign filed 86 lawsuits contesting election processes, vote counting, and the vote certification process in multiple states, including Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

Nearly all the suits were dismissed or dropped due to lack of evidence, some of which were dismissed by judges Trump himself appointed while in office.

Legislative Goals

While in office, Timken said she would oppose President Joe Biden’s spending plans, which equal around $6 trillion in covid relief, infrastructure, and support for families such as access to education and support for women in the workforce, as reported by the New York Times.

“I’m all for targeted taxpayer spending when it’s appropriate, but this is irresponsible,” she said.

Timken also said she would oppose Democratic Party initiatives such as statehood for D.C., the cancellation of the Keystone XL pipeline, and packing of the U.S. Supreme Court.

She said she would also work to fight for tax cuts if President Joe Biden succeeds in raising corporate tax rates from 21% to between 25 and 28% as part of his plan to pay for the American Jobs plan.

Timken also emphasized workforce development. “As I travel across Ohio, the biggest complaint I hear from small businesses to large businesses across the spectrum from health care to franchising to coffee shops, they can’t find enough people to work, specifically, they need the skills.”

Timken aims to emphasize education and skill development for American workers.

This week, the former GOP chair will kick off a “listening tour” to hear the concerns of parents over what Timken refers to as a “woke agenda” in education.

“As a mom, I am very concerned about the effects of Critical Race Theory and other leftist teachings that are being forced on our education system in Ohio and across the country,” she said. “Moms, dads, and teachers know what is best for our kids in the classroom – not partisan propagandists in Washington pushing a political agenda.”

Specifically, Timken mentioned the 1619 project, which “aims to reframe the country’s history by placing the consequences of slavery and the contributions of Black Americans at the very center of the United States’ national narrative,” according to the project website.

Timken argues that curriculum like the 1619 project only serve to “encourage a racial divide.”

“We can talk about our history and the great things that have happened and some of the tragic things that have happened in this country, but not through a filter of everything is race,” she said. “…I think we recognize some of our failings in this country and that should be taught, but not the entire focus on what our curriculum should be.”

The 54-year-old is attempting to become the first woman to represent Ohio in the U.S. Senate. She was previously the first woman to lead a major political party in the state.

“Ohioans need someone who’s going to be a fighter for their families, their freedoms, their jobs, I’m that person, I’ve always been the fighter, I’ve always stood up for the America First agenda, that’s what Ohioans want, that’s why they voted for President Trump by over eight points,” she said. “I’m the one that’s been out advocating for that, and I’m the one that’s going to be in the US Senate advocating for Ohioans.”

Mansfield News Journal: ’I’m not the kind of person who sits on the sidelines:’ Jane Timken visits Mansfield

MANSFIELD – Former Ohio GOP Chair Jane Timken describes herself as someone who doesn’t sit on the sidelines.

“When I see something that’s a problem, I want to stand up and solve it,” she said. “That’s why I ran for chair of the party. I’m the kind of person that brings people together, solves the problem and makes a difference. That’s the kind of senator I will be.”

The Cincinnati native and Canton-area resident launched her bid to succeed fellow Republican Sen. Rob Portman two months ago and has been touring the state to meet with voters, especially Republican women.

On Tuesday, Timken was in Mansfield to speak with the Richland County Republican Women’s Club. Later this week she’ll be in Cincinnati.

“This race is going to be won by convincing the voters of Ohio that I am the best candidate for the U.S. Senate,” Timken said. “I’ve spent the past four years and 150,000 miles traveling the state, talking to voters.”

Three other Republicans are running to succeed Portman: Cleveland investment banker Mike Gibbons; ex-state Treasurer Josh Mandel; Westlake auto dealer and tech investor Bernie Moreno. U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan, a suburban Warren Democrat, also launched his campaign Monday.

Trump endorsement may be the key to winning

The endorsement of former President Donald Trump is considered key to winning the GOP primary. While attending a fundraiser last month at Trump’s West Palm Beach golf club, the four Republican contenders were summoned by the former president for a backroom meeting, as reported by Politico.

Trump helped Timken oust former Ohio GOP chairman Matt Borges in early 2017. Borges, who’s since been charged in a $60 million bribery scandal but maintains his innocence, was backed by former Ohio Gov. John Kasich, who ran against Trump in 2016.

During an interview with the News Journal at Nickel & Bean coffee shop in Lexington, Timken said she has a good relationship with the former president and would welcome his endorsement.

“It’s entirely up to him,” Timken said. “For now, I’m focused on winning the endorsement of Ohio voters. They’re the ones who are going to make this decision and I plan on being the next senator from Ohio.”

Local officials who’ve endorsed Timken so far include State Reps. Marilyn John and Bob Gibbs.

While Timken was state GOP chair, Trump won Ohio last year by a comfortable margin.

“I’ve been the one that’s out there advancing the America First agenda, which Ohioans overwhelmingly supported in the last election with President Trump winning Ohio by 8 points,” Timken said. “I’m the one that’s out there every day talking to voters and I plan on winning this race.”

In Timken’s latest ad, she pledges to finish Trump’s wall on the southern border, the construction of which has been paused.

“I think that walls work,” Timken said. “Nancy Pelosi has a wall around the Capitol. So, if it didn’t work, why does she have a wall?”

“It’s a deterrent and we need to have a border,” she continued.

Troubled by what she sees in D.C.

Timken is troubled by what she sees in Washington D.C.

She takes issue with President Joe Biden’s infrastructure bill, saying it’s full of “Democrat pet projects” that have nothing to do with infrastructure and describes the sweeping voting rights measure in Congress, known as the For the People Act, as a “federal takeover of our state election systems.”

“I think it’s absolutely tilting the scales toward the Democrats,” Timken said. “That’s why I call it For the Democrats Act.

“This is all designed for their power,” she continued. “It’s not about making sure we have fair and free elections.”

Timken, 54, is vying to become the first woman to represent Ohio in the U.S. Senate. She was the first woman to lead a major political party in the Buckeye State before Democrats selected Liz Walters as their chair earlier this year.

Although the Senate campaign marks the first time Timken has run for public office, the Cincinnati Enquirer has described the political operative who’s largely been behind-the-scenes as an “adept fundraiser.”

Timken raised $2.1 million by the end of March for her bid, nearly half of which came from a personal loan.

“I’m in this race because I want to stand up for this country and Ohioans,” Timken said. “We need someone who’s going to be championing Ohio’s families, workers and businesses and caring about their prosperity and opportunity.”

Sandusky Register: Timken campaigns for Senate in Sandusky

By Tom Jackson

April 22, 2021

https://sanduskyregister.com/news/316568/timken-campaigns-for-senate-in-sandusky/

SANDUSKY — Working to stand out in a crowded field of Republican candidates running for the U.S. Senate, former Ohio GOP chair Jane Timken campaigned in Sandusky on Wednesday.

Timken, 54, was chairman of the Ohio Republican Party from 2017 until February when she stepped down to mount her Senate bid.

Timken spoke Wednesday to the Erie County Republican Women and points out that if she wins, she’d be Ohio’s first woman in the U.S. Senate.

“I’ve always been fighting for women to get more involved in the political arena, which is why talking to groups like the Erie County Republican Women’s Club is so important,” Timken said. “We need more women leaders.”

U.S. Sen. Rob Portman has announced he won’t seek re-election next year, and the news that the seat is coming open has generated plenty of excitement among would-be senators.

Timken’s best-known rival so far in next year’s GOP primary is Josh Mandel, a former Ohio state treasurer who has run before for the U.S. Senate.

Other Republican candidates in the race are Mike Gibbons, a Cleveland businessman who ran in 2018; Bernie Moreno, a Cleveland businessman; Michael Leipold, a former U.S. Army Apache helicopter pilot; Zachary Musick, Neil Patel and Mackenzie Thompson. Former Trump White House counselor Kellyanne Conway is listed as a “senior advisor” to Moreno.

No prominent Democrats have announced yet, but U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan, a Youngstown Democrat, apparently plans to run and could make an announcement soon.

Most of the Republican candidates, including Timken, have emphasized they support former President Donald Trump. Trump hasn’t issued an endorsement in the race.

“My career has been defined by getting involved and not sitting on the sidelines waiting for others to fix the problems Ohio faces,” Timken said. “From ousting Kasich’s hand-picked party chair and being President Trump’s number one surrogate in Ohio, to now running to stop Joe Biden and the Democrats’ agenda that is threatening Ohio’s progress, I have a record of delivering results.”

Timken defeated incumbent GOP chairman Matt Borges in 2017. Borges was arrested last year along with four other Republicans, including former Ohio House Speaker Larry Householder, in connection with the First Energy bribery scandal.

We are lucky to have her running here in Ohio and I can’t wait to see her as our next United States Senator.” – John Berlin, Mayor of Salem.

CANTON, OH – Jane Timken’s campaign for U.S. Senate announced the endorsement Wednesday of Maggie’s List, a group created to empower women and increase the number of conservative women elected to federal public office. This is Maggie List’s first Senate endorsement of the 2022 election cycle.

“Maggie’s List is proud to endorse Jane Timken in her race to be Ohio’s next United States Senator. Jane will fight against the Biden administration’s radical tax and spend agenda on behalf of families working hard to provide a better future for the next generation. Jane is a proven leader who will work tirelessly to advance the conservative principles that Maggie’s List was founded upon, and we strongly support her campaign.” – Maggie’s List Chairman Sandra Mortham

Jane Timken: Unwavering Fighter for Donald Trump and the America First Agenda

CANTON, OH – Jane Timken’s campaign released the following statement and graphic touting Timken’s record of support for President Trump that stands in stark contrast with other candidates in the race. Over the last five years, there’s been only one U.S. Senate candidate who has consistently and reliably been an unwavering fighter for Donald Trump and the America First agenda. The campaign looks forward to repeatedly making this contrast over the next year.

“With President Trump’s endorsement, I ousted the Kasich-cronies and cleaned up the Ohio Republican Party. I loudly and proudly served as President Trump’s top surrogate in Ohio, championed his America First agenda, and delivered a resounding Ohio victory for him. The record is clear: there is only one true pro-Trump, America First candidate in this race who has shown unwavering support for President Trump over the past five years, and that is me. I look forward to carrying this mantle in the United States Senate” – U.S. Senate Jane Timken

ICYMI: Timken: Country must defend police, not defund them

Delaware Gazette
U.S. Senate Candidate Jane Timken
May 5, 2021

“Police officers are on the front lines of keeping our communities safe and face a battle every day between life and death. When others run away from violence, police officers run towards it.

Sadly, they are now facing another battle – a battle from their own communities and the senseless calls for “defunding the police.”

What was once a rallying cry of the radical left has now become mainstream as more Democrats and leftist activists point to defunding – or even abolishing – the police.

Instead of defending our officers in uniform, the growing chorus of anti-police sentiment and incendiary rhetoric is coming from some of our nation’s most prominent leaders on the left.

Over the summer, while violent rioters burned cities to the ground, now-Vice President Harris bailed out Minnesota criminals. Recently, Congresswoman Maxine Waters urged protesters to “get more confrontational” in the streets. LeBron James shamefully targeted the brave officer in Columbus with a thinly-veiled twitter threat, while Ohio’s own Sherrod Brown sent an irresponsible tweet that spread a false narrative.

While there is always room for reform, defunding the police only opens the door to more violence in our communities, often leaving the most vulnerable helpless. If we’ve learned anything from the riots and chaos we’ve seen over the past year, it’s that less police presence means an increase in crime and more violence.

Just look at Minneapolis, Seattle, Portland, New York or Los Angeles.

We cannot listen to the lefts’ radical calls for defunding or abolishing the police. Defunding the police will not prevent tragic crimes from occurring: it will only lead to longer response times and less help for people in need of emergency services.

How can we expect the best and brightest in uniform if as a society, we undermine police officers and erode public trust? How can we expect to have the next generation of police officers, if they think their own communities don’t support them?

The silent majority must stand up in support of our men and women in blue. Police officers have our backs, and we must also have theirs. I am forever grateful to our police officers, and will always ‘Back the Blue.’”

Jane Timken to Kick Off Statewide Listening Tour to Combat “Woke” Education Agenda

CANTON, OH – This week, Jane Timken will kick off a statewide listening tour to talk to moms and dads about concerns they have in their children’s education curriculum. This tour comes as Biden and Democrats are pushing a “woke” education agenda:

“As a mom, I am very concerned about the effects of Critical Race Theory and other leftist teachings that are being forced on our education system in Ohio and across the country. Moms, dads, and teachers know what is best for our kids in the classroom – not partisan propagandists in Washington pushing a political agenda.

In order to educate and prepare the next generation, we should focus on improving our schools and expanding access through school choice, not on racial ideologies that only divide our country further. China must be thrilled that the Biden education department is more concerned with being ‘woke’ rather than teaching math and science.” – U.S. Senate candidate Jane Timken

This listening tour, launching Friday in Columbus, will consist of parents sharing their concerns so that Jane can take this fight to Washington as a U.S. Senator.

Background:

  • Biden’s Department of Education has proposed a role that would update American history curricula to include the 1619 project, teachings that have been criticized by educators and activists from both sides for being agenda-driven.
  • Jane would have proudly joined the 38 Senators calling for an immediate end to this proposed rule.
  • Critical Race Theory, Pollyanna and other racial-based education is spreading rapidly throughout the country.
  • The Ohio Board of Education passed a resolution calling for a “culturally responsive curriculum” in Ohio schools.
  • As Jane continues to travel the state, education and the effects of these advocacy-based teachings are consistently top concerns.

ICYMI: Timken: Biden Border Crisis directly affects Ohio

Toledo Blade
U.S. Senate Candidate Jane Timken
May 2, 2021

“As a direct result of the Biden Administration’s open-border policies, the crisis at our Southern Border is exploding — and our current Democrat leaders are nowhere to be found.

Upon taking office, Joe Biden rolled back many of the successful policies of the Trump Administration that made our border safe and secure. Namely, he ended construction of the border wall, revoked the “Remain in Mexico” policy, eliminated restrictions on chain migration, and advocated amnesty for 11 million illegal immigrants living in the United States.

This radical lurch to the left comes as no surprise.

On the campaign trail, Mr. Biden openly supported giving illegal immigrants taxpayer-funded health care, while Kamala Harris has pushed for the decriminalization of illegal border crossings. Ms. Harris has gone so far as to compare the brave men and women serving in Immigration and Customs Enforcement to the KKK.

These open border policies are precisely why there are migrants at the Southern border wearing T-shirts that say “Biden, please let us in.”

Instead of showing real leadership and addressing this crisis of their own making, the Biden Administration response can be summed up in three “Bs” — buck responsibility, blame others, and backtrack.

But how does it affect Ohio? After all, we aren’t a border state.

First and foremost, it impacts our national security. CBP has apprehended terrorists attempting to use the chaos to sneak into the country.

Second, the humanitarian crisis should devastate everyone. Facilities with unaccompanied minors are so overcrowded that young girls are forced to use plastic bags as toilets.

Third, open borders mean increased human trafficking and drug smuggling, both of which greatly impact Ohio. The seizure of fentanyl at the border has risen by 233 percent since last year. Illicit drugs are being trafficked across the border and ending up in states nationwide, including Ohio.

As U.S. Senator, I will fight to protect our borders by championing a return to America First policies. I will fight to finish building the wall. It is critical that we resume the “Remain in Mexico” policy and put Americans first when it comes to education and health care — not dangle them as rewards that incentivize illegal immigration.

As your U.S. Senator, I will stand strong against illegal immigration because a safe and secure border means safe and secure communities.”
